The Nectar Thief

Original painting not available

Giclée print upon request

I painted "The Nectar Thief" with watercolor on 300gsm watercolor paper. I love the wonders of nature and prefer to depict them with watercolor. In this painting you see the masked flowerpiercer. This blue bird with a black mask lives in the Andes Mountains in South America and is a bit of a cheater. Usually, birds pollinate flowers when they take the sweet nectar from the flowers. However, this bird has an upward curved beak with a hook at the tip of its upper beak. With this hook they pierce the base of the flowers, so they get the nectar without pollinating the flower. Because of this special feature, this beautiful bird is a true nectar thief and I chose to depict him in the middle of his act.

Every painting comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The size of the painting is 21 x 28,5 cm
