Sword-Billed Hummingbird
Original painting not available
Giclée print upon request
This is the intriguing sword-billed hummingbird. It is the only bird to have a beak longer than the rest of its body (excluding its tail) and it lives in the Andean region of South America. Since this bird has such a long beak, it uses its feet to preen and scratch, whereas most other hummingbirds use their beak. The sword-billed hummingbird drinks nectar form flowers with long corollas with its bill. I was truly mesmerized by this gorgeous bird and decided to depict him with aquarelle.
