I made "Carmen" with water-soluble graphite on 300 gsm watercolor paper. When I'm painting a portrait, I focus on putting emotion in the painting. I spend a lot of time on creating the flow of the hair and shaping the face until she feels real. The black and white of water-soluble graphite gives the feeling of an old photograph.
